I'm gathering useful links for students of newly established graduate program in bioinformatics. The main audience are computer science and software engineering majors who are curious to apply their skills to bioinformatics problems.

Thank you!

P.S. But also great biologists-oriented courses are welcome in this thread since they may be useful for biostar visitors.

Commenting on my own old question: Rosalind is an online platform for learning bioinformatics through problem solving.

I wasn't not using BioStar for some time but previously have collected enough Bioinformatics resources links. Here it goes.

More similar post you can find Bioinformatics Webinar/Seminar

For the time being this much, hope it helps

I find the Canadian Bioinformatics Workshops (CBW) series (http://bioinformatics.ca/) the most useful. It contains series of downloadable lectures (http://bioinformatics.ca/workshops/) from basics of Bioinformatics to the current issues. And above all CBW promotes open access !!

I have found this course collection to be helpful. It contains four different sections (Introductory bioinformatics, Structural bioinformatics, computer skills for biotechnology and bioinformatics in target identification and validation). In addition there is also archive for other relevant topics like computer aided drug design. I also did free course on Pharmaceutical Bioinformatics offered by Uppsala University and was really useful. In addition, students can access free courses from MITlike Computational Functional Genomics.

Ensembl has a YouTube channel of videos, and pdf tutorials all accessible here:

Any feedback on those would be welcome.

Specific to Systems Biology though, but still worth mentioning I guess: The book "Bioinformatics for Systems Biology" is available for free in PDF form.

Our group (Burkhard Rost) gives lectures in structural bioinformatics. Take a look: http://rostlab.org/cms/teaching/teaching-overview/

Chris, thank you for the link. BTW, I've met many of your colleagues from Rost Lab at ISMB few weeks ago, they were awesome.

Hi, the BTN (Bioinformatics Training Network) is a community-based project aiming to provide a centralised facility to share materials, to list training events (including course contents and trainers), and to share and discuss training experiences, see here: http://www.biotnet.org/ Best Vicky

Definitely, BTN is one of the best place to get up-to-date list of training events...

Some of the tutorials I have found useful and interesting:

  1. http://spdbv.vital-it.ch/TheMolecularLevel/Matics/index.html
  2. http://www.roseindia.net/bioinformatics
  3. http://www.biochem.ucl.ac.uk/bsm/dbbrowser/c32/contents.html3.
  4. http://bioportal.weizmann.ac.il/course/prog

And www.youtube.com has topic specific video tutorials which are very helpful.

Dan gusfield has recorded several of his bioinformatics lectures but you might have to ask him nicely for it (the link appears to be dead) http://www.cs.ucdavis.edu/~gusfield/

Hi, thanks for the info. but when I clicked on "CS124 Lecture Videos " under bold " Bioinformatics Course Lecture Videos", it turns out http://www.cs.ucdavis.edu/~gusfield/ECS124spring02videos.doc raised 403 forbidden error..

You try emailing him then, he had them up when he was teaching class but I don't think he is teaching this year.
