I graduated from university with a master degree in 2013. My minor is probability theory and statistics and my major is computer science.
I want to combine my skills and knowledge with bioinformatics and work in this area.
Can you advice me good books about bioinformatics?
My View is that if you already know statistics and coding then you just keep following Biostars, SeqAnswers and sometimes Stack Overflow , I believe that one can learn more than theoretical books.
Go to Coursera, click on Courses & check the Statistics and Data Analysis option on the left (Coursera). There are always some Bioinformatics/Public Health courses under this section. In case you don't already know what coursera is: Professors from universities all around the world offer online courses here, for free. You can enroll in any of the courses that match your interests. You may or may not choose to attend lectures (it is not mandatory) but you can definitely try your hand at the exercises/assignments/projects. It is a very good way to learn & explore your interests. Also you get certificate of verification by the host university on completion of the course successfully. If you are a public health/bioinformatics student, I would recommend courses offered by the Johns Hopkins University. If you want general data exploration and analysis, Stanford/Columbia/UPenn and even others are pretty good. (Completely my opinion, may not be true for everyone. You can look at the course content and then decide what aligns to your interests).
Remember, it is not mandatory to take lectures, you can directly jump to the assignments/quiz/exercise section if you are already pretty good at R and statistics. If you are a beginner, then I would suggest you listen to lectures as well.
