Job 1 Senior Research Engineer/Research Scientist - Bioinformatics/Computational Biology

Responsibilities

  • Application of bioinformatics tools to inform metabolic engineering strategies with the aim to construct optimized metabolic pathways comprised of recombinant and engineered enzymes for the production of bulk chemicals.
  • Integration of bioinformatics resources (genomics, proteomics, literature) to aid the identification of novel genes, pathways and enzyme families for a synthetic catalytic application.
  • Liaise within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, presenting, reviewing and appraising results.

Requirements

  • MSc/PhD Bioinformatics or Computational Biology.
  • Applying bioinformatics and statistical tools to analyse, interpret and disseminate knowledge gained from a wide range of public/online databases, predictive tools, proprietary software and custom high-throughput biological data either independently or integratively.
  • Very solid foundation in prokaryotic physiology/genetics/metabolism/enzyme catalysis.
  • Ability to work in a challenging multidisciplinary environment, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in the visual presentation of biological data from modelling, -omics and other sources to non-bioinformatics audiences.
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Job 2 Senior Computational Biology Research Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Provide sequence, structural and mechanistic insight into catalytic activity and function of enzymes to metabolic engineering team.
  • Guide protein engineering strategies by interpreting catalytic variance, and using structure/function insights for the computational redesign of enzymes.
  • Predict catalytic action by protein homology modelling and ligand docking.
  • Integrate various resources (genomics, proteomics, literature) to aid the identification of novel enzymes for synthetic catalytic application.
  • Liaise within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, presenting, reviewing and appraising results.

Requirements

  • PhD Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Computational Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Excellent analytical thinking skills and a solid foundation in general enzyme mechanisms, sequence and structural analysis.
  • Expertise in applying bioinformatics tools for enzyme modeling and catalytic analysis (multiple sequence alignment, genomic context, structure and sequence homology, PyMOL/YASARA)
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment, both independently and as part of a team setting.
  • Molecular dynamics and protein/small molecule docking (AutoDock).
  • Phylogenetics analysis
  • Metabolic pathway exploration and tool development

Job 3 Senior Research Engineer/Research Scientist - Bioinformatics/Computational Biology

  • Bioinformatic and statistical analysis of genomic, transcriptomic, metabolomic and/or proteomic datasets.
  • Utilising the -omics datasets to construct, refine and interrogate genome scale metabolic models.
  • Integration of the -omics datasets to aid the understanding and engineering of the selected microbial host and also for the identification of novel genes, pathways and enzymes
  • Liaise within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, presenting, reviewing and appraising results.

Requirements

  • PhD Bioinformatics or Computational Biology.
  • Expertise in applying bioinformatics and statistical tools to analyse, interpret and disseminate knowledge gained from a wide range of high-throughput biological data either independently or integratively.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a very solid foundation in microbial physiology.
  • Ability to work in a challenging multidisciplinary environment, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Hands-on experience in the analysis of metabolic networks using advanced techniques such as flux balance analysis and minimisation of metabolic adjustment to inform the design and optimisation of non-natural pathways in microorganisms.
  • Experience in the visual presentation of biological data from modelling, -omics and other sources to non-bioinformatics audiences.
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Generally we are looking for two senior roles and one other role that could be senior or junior (job advert 1).

While the roles are defined in the adverts, the skills combination will be key to candidate selection, and how these skills compliment other candidates. As its a very fast changing environment with an emphasis of rewarding contributions, these roles can evolve quickly (even junior ones).

Initially it is envisaged one of the three roles will replace my old position(Enzyme Docking, Enzyme selection, Pathway finding, Sequence analysis), another Bioinformaticians role will support strain characterisation (Metabolic modelling, RNAseq, etc), while a third role would bridge both, complimenting/learning both aspects and able to step up into either role in future.

Its an exciting role, performing cutting edge research. I would recommend applying as it gives great experience both from learning perspective and career progression.

I have read about these positions, but are only for the senior? in the title I have read about junior and senior. In any case I'm interested in these positions, I would like more informations. I'm a MSc graduate bioinformatician at Univesity of Bologna in Italy. Thanks
