Can I download ENSEMBL gtf whose release number is different from that of the corresponding genome as long as the assembly is identical?

Hi. I downloaded the M.mulatta genome release 73 and its associated annotations sometime ago.

Now Ensembl has the release 78, and there must be some updates, and I want to incorporate that into my new analysis.

Now the assembly hasn't changed(MMUL 1.0, Feb 2006), but I was wondering if I can use the GTF release 78 with the geome release 73? or do I have to redownload the genome?

The reason why I asked is because all the indexes(bowtie/star/blast,etc ) were done on the genome 73 and wanted to save some time if redoing is unnecessary.

If you look at the CHECKSUM files for the compressed fasta files on the ftp server (release 73 and release 78), you'll see that the files are essentially identical except for nonchromosomal. So if you included that one in your reference, you might want to look into what the differences are.

Edit: Actually, it looks like the nonchromosomal file just has the contigs reordered between the versions (no clue why).
