I really liked this discussion:
What Are The Most Influential Bioinformatics/Computational Biology Papers Of 2011?
Therefore, I think it would be nice to have it also for 2014.
This is a really good way of having an overview about what happened in the last year.
Just to add some new information to the MinION topic:
Improved data analysis for the MinION nanopore sequencer
thanks for posting it - I am very interested in the technology and the latest developments
This is awesome to hear. I'm still wondering how these things deal with single stranded RNA virus genomes. The problem there is that there's usually a ton of structure in the 5'/3' UTRs. With 'normal' NGS these regions can have poor coverage but I wonder how well they would fit through a pore. It would be nice to not have to do RACE to get a full genome sequence.
Or for that matter how well can you deal with cDNA generated from viral genomes?
I really wish they'd start selling them already.
Sorry my ignorance, are you refering tho this: https://www.biostars.org/p/86819/?
it is actually this https://nanoporetech.com/technology/the-minion-device-a-miniaturised-sensing-system/the-minion-device-a-miniaturised-sensing-system
turns out the word MinION is not all that searchable on the account of the Despicable Me movies
Google should really add case sensitive search.
Alternatively, Oxford can ship the device in a special Blue-and-Yellow Googly Eyed edition :D
