Hello everyone (again :-)),

I'd like to ask -- what are the grey gaps in secondary structure of protein in UniProt?

E.g. http://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/P00533

-- annotated secondary structure starts at position 40 and ends by a grey gap pos 55. What is the grey gap? Is it missing annotation, or "nothing" to care about, or introns?

Thank You in advance :-)

Proteins contain helices (http://www.uniprot.org/help/helix), turns (http://www.uniprot.org/help/turn) and beta strands (http://www.uniprot.org/help/strand), but also flexible loops. The grey zones correspond to loops. The UniProtKB entry provides links to PDB and PDBsum, and if you want to see these loops, you might want to look at the protein structure, shown here http://www.ebi.ac.uk/pdbsum/1IVO
