Hi,

In my lab, we want a software package to facilitate the link between bioinformatic and molecular biology. So a soft which permits to view and edit sequences, the annotation, restriction sites, primer design, alignment, ... So a program that covers a lot of the work of molecular biologists.

There are some software available, but I don't know them well :

  • Geneious
  • Gene Designer
  • UGene
  • GBench
  • ...

Thanks a lot,

I have used CLC genomics workbench and it is perfect for almost any bioinformatics task. There are also numerous add-in options to increase fuctionality. This will be my pick over Geneious.

People in my lab use: ApE http://biologylabs.utah.edu/jorgensen/wayned/ape/

At the end of the 90th (...) I was using the venerable but powerful DNA Strider.

Geneious is probably a good choice for people who aren't that good with computers. More generally, I don't think there's a single package that does the job best, rather there are best specific tools for each task.

Geneious or CLC workbench will be a good choice.

This is a really old thread and this question is unrelated. Please post this as a new post (as type: question). Thanks.
