It seems the information about target data is not well organized here, and the name "TARGET" make it even more difficult for me to search online.

In particular, if I got a data like TARGET-52-PADYZI-10A-01D, what does it mean? I know PADYZI is a patient id, but how about 52? is it a tissue code? Then what are -10A-01D? subsample id? Does any of this information contains experiment type? Thanks

Thanks. By comparing TCGA code and naming of TARGET data, your guess is right.

TARGET-52-PADYZI-10A-01D
  • 52 is the disease type
  • 10 is the sample type (normal blood, tumor, etc)
  • A is the vial
  • 01 is the portion
  • D means DNA

Hope this will help others who is also working on TARGET data. I just don't understand why TARGET don't have this info explicitly described somewhere.

I dont know about TARGET, however the notation reminds me of the "legacy sample id" naming scheme at TCGA, where

  • 10A is the sample type with 10="Blood derived Normal" or 01="Primary solid tumor" or 06="Metastatic" and so on
  • 01D ist the analyte code with D=DNA or R=RNA, T=Total RNA

Also see: https://tcga-data.nci.nih.gov/datareports/codeTablesReport.htm

I hope this helps a bit.

I know 06="Metastatic", I don't know whether the metastatic sample is from the breast or not when the breast cancer sample type is 06.such as 06 means Metastatic, I don't know the cancer cell transferred before the surgery or after. What does Additional Metastatic mean?
