Are there any certificate courses available in Bioinformatics? I prefer short term free or low cost courses. There are a few available on Coursera but I am not sure if they offer a certificate upon completion.

What about this coursera specialization: https://www.coursera.org/specialization/genomics/41?utm_medium=listingPage ?

If you pay some fee, you can earn a verified certificate.

Thank you Airan and Venu. I realized that coursera offers you certificate but only upon payment. Am therefore not sure if those certificates will have much value. in fact, I don't mind paying a small fee for registration, but not for the certificate itself. Am looking at the links provided by Venu. Can you please recommend if you have personally taken any course?

I've taken a course on R and a course on Introduction to Bioinformatics algorithms (edx and coursera respectively). One advantage of joining these types of courses is discipline. You should complete the tasks within time limits, so you can concentrate more (on the other hand - 'It should not interfere with you actual work'). If you have any programming experience (or a tyro like me) Rosalind provides a unique way to implement those skills in BI. Finally 'you will definitely be exposed to many more new things during the courses'.

Certifications cost money, in fact, as far as I can tell it's the main way that companies like Coursera make money. And I'm not sure how meaningful the piece of paper is, so you can still take a lot of these courses for free and just say you took them rather than paying for the certification. Coursera provides excellent classes related to bioinformatics and Udacity provides really good classes in data analysis, many of which are free.
