Dear all,

I want a clarification that if a gene have multiple gene id for the same organism what the logic behind it for example these two gens have multiple gene ids

COX2    4513;    8923202;    6775079
COX1    6775083;    4512;    8923218

COX2:

  • 4513 - Homo sapiens
  • 8923202 - Homo sapiens ssp. Denisova
  • 6775079 - Homo sapiens neanderthalensis

Looks like you are looking at the same gene in different 'types' of humans:

Therefore these get different gene IDs

Here, for COX2 the gene ID 4513 is from Homo Sapiens, 8923202 is from Homo sapiens ssp. Denisova and 6775079 is from Homo sapiens neanderthalensis (Neandertal) hence are not for exactly same organism.
