Hi everyone! I am a graduated student in the CS and Applied Math. Сloser to the end of my education I became interested in biology, genetics etc and also started participating in population genetics lectures at my University as a auditor. I'm pretty good at programming in java, python, R, applied math and statistics. Unfortunately, I can't find any projects to get experience in this field. I mean some real projects for beginner bioinformatician or something similar. Could anyone give me some pieces of advise what I can do? Now I'm just solving some problems on http://rosalind.info from time to time and got some knowledge from Coursera courses. Payment is not necessary on this step, because it's really interesting for me to take some part in such project (remote preferable) even for free.

I read post like mine before: Project For A Beginner Bioinformatics Student, but that has pretty old information.

There are several homework assignments from Phil Green at the University of Washington that you may find helpful. URL:

You could also choose a scientific hypothesis and use publicly available data (like from the 1000 Genomes Project) to try to investigate it. For example, you could ask, "Do SNPs appear less often near exons?"

Hi, I guess I will do the issues in that link.

As for 'scientific hypothesis' I'm not sure I'll be able to cope with work like this now, so I'm looking for some projects when I could get an exp and learn.

Where are you located? We are looking for some people to help our company work on various projects. Actually, I just look for an experience in bioinformatics, nothing specific.
