how to draw a Gene Cluster Scheme

Can anyone tell me how to draw the gene cluster like in this abstract?

I have tried Easyfig but the figure is ugly.

Use scalable vector graphics (SVG) editors. I recommend Inkscape (freeware, can be used in Unix, Mac, Windows) or adobe illustrator (requires license, Windows, Mac)
