Position is part of the newly-established German National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Network (de.NBI), as part of the Heidelberg Human Bioinformatics (HD-HuB) node in Heidelberg, working at EMBL.
The node focuses on development and deployment of human-centered bioinformatics tools and services.
The position entails developing and maintaining bioinformatics tools for analyses of metagenomics and human 'omics data. Responsibilities range from devising new analytical methods to robust software implementation and integration into software pipelines and service portals. These activities will take place in a highly collaborative research environment requiring interactions with scientists from Peer Bork's, Wolfgang Huber's, Jan Korbel's and Toby Gibson's groups and others, who perform cutting-edge research on the human microbiome, in cancer genomics, statistical computing and multi-omics data integration. The postholder will additionally work closely with computational support initiatives at EMBL
Requirements for this position include: a PhD degree, preferably in a technical field with some exposure to biological research. Good programming skills (knowledge of R and/or Python are most valuable) and familiarity with Unix / Bash are essential.
