Why most of bioinformatics tools are based on linux rather than windows?

You have to change the wheel of your car. Why do you use the provided and adapted car jack for this purpose rather than a piece of wood?

Nowadays, you can choose to work with Windows operating system. But without the terminal environment of Unix systems, you can not be as efficient as Unix workers (Or you will need Cygwin! :D).
