Is there a way to turn the revolvermaps off at the bottom of the Biostars pages? It is killing my system (I have a cheap integrated pseudo video card).

If you are using Chrome, you can install AdBlock and then block the map manually. Install AdBlock and then click "Block an ad on this page" from their menu icon. Then click on the map and accept the AdBlock defaults to block it. There are probably similar approaches with other ad blocking systems for other browsers.

sorry about that. I have never realized that it might have performance implication. I'll look into making it opt-in or something similar.

Overall I found it useful and inspiring when talking to other people about Biostar - all I need is to scroll to the bottom of the page and show them who is here at this moment - all of a sudden it all clicks for them. Sometimes I just scroll to look at it for fun. This rotating globe makes the people that visit all the more real - we see all the various places in the world light up.

I just realized that the little counter on the globe is says 4 million visits since January 27, 2015 ... that's when I turned the globe on. Hard to fathom that.

Thanks Istvan. I used AdBlock as matted suggested and it works, so if I am the only one to "complain" about performance issues, maybe you can ignore this :)

I brought up a good point that will still be considered, perhaps others that have problems don't realize what is causing it hence won't complain. I hate slow sites myself and we'll try to see if this can be avoided.
