Could anyone suggest me a nice picture showing properly what is a SNP. I have to explain this concept to people unfamiliar with genetics.

I think the figure is trying to show the SNP is not associated with bad taste in trousers

Isn't that figure showing mutation instead of SNP? I always thought SNP implies some allele frequencies like for "genetic polymorphism" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polymorphism_%28biology%29#Genetic_polymorphism

and yes, it'd be nice if one group had a higher frequency of ugly "trousers".

I would show an alignment of the portion of the human APOE gene showing the epsilon 2, epsilon3 and epsilon 4 alleles: E2 = rs429358 T and rs7412 T; E3 = rs429358 T and rs7412 C; E4 = rs429358 C and rs7412 C. Many people know this disease and many are interested or afraid to be tested at these SNPs.
