I am wondering which ones are the fastest and if anyone has benchmarked the performance.
If the tool you want to try is installed on usegalaxy.org I would start there. The jobs are run at TACC and are being given a decent chunk of resources. You might have to wait in a queue before your jobs start though - depends on the load.
If the Main instance is slow for you I would look into hosting Galaxy on own hardware that you have control over. I doubt anybody will give you more resources for free than Main.

How can one do a benchmark so the comparison is fair? These hosts all likely run on different hardware, have different job loads at any given time and may have different access policies for outside jobs.
