I am looking for a website/article/book/resource/anything that will help me learn "genome assembly" from scratch, step-by-step on a given dataset.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

This came to my mind immediately. http://www.homolog.us/Tutorials/index.php?p=1.4&s=1

There could be other great review/methods papers.

There is one course in courser that is called Algorithms for DNA Sequencing. When I was writing my alignment code, It helped me pretty much. You may look for it.

Good luck!

Ho to apply de Bruijn graphs to genome assembly. A very well written review. Worth the read.
