Contribute To R Package Or Function In Cran

In another post we have recently discussed improvements/fixes to an existing R package/function. If we wanted those changes added to the "official" code in CRAN, how would we go about it? Can anyone share their experience doing this?

Simply write to the maintainer of the package in question. A patch is also helpful if you have made the changes yourself. The maintainer is listed in the package DESCRIPTION file and should contain an email contact.

If the changes are to "base R" and not to a contributed package, writing to the R-devel mailing list with your suggestion and patch is the way to go.
