I know that there is the option to retrieve any ensemble link by entering the following:

"www.ensembl.org/id/ENS##########" where "####" is the rest of the gene id.

Is there an option to retrieve any ensembl id even from plants, bacteria, etc, without having to add the prefix to the webpage?

Here there is an example of what I expect:

  • geneid1: "CAD01290" (from bacteria)
  • geneid2: "ENSG00000139618" (from human)

I know that this works:

But is there a way to share the same webpage prefix, such as:

which could allow to access to any of the ensembl webpages no matter if it is a plant, bacteria, fungi, etc...?

Thank you very much

No, you have to specify the division.

And is there any way to input the gene and retrieve the division?

such as:

  • input: CAD01290, output: "bacteria"
  • input: ENSG00000139618, output "human" or "without division" or "basic ensembl"

Thank you

No, Ensembl (vertebrates) and Ensembl Genomes (the five non-vertebrate divisions) are on different databases and servers. You can't search both in one go.

I don't really understand what your goal is. Why do you want to access any (?do you mean all?) webpages by id? Could it be that your task rather aims for API use than 'browsing' to the homepage?

My aim is that I have just the GeneID, without any other information about if it comes from human, bacteria, etc.

Thus, I want to be able to generate the appropiate link to be redirected to the proper ensembl webpage with just the ID information.

And with only the ID by now I couldn't find the "universal" way to make it yet.
