Computing Genome Duplication

HI,

I have a genome of non-model organism. How can I find whether the genome is duplicated and cimputing the percentage of duplication.

It would help if you could narrow down the organism (bacterial, plant, yeast, mammal...........)

How have others previously identified genome duplications? I don't think it was done bioinformatically. Why not start on a bigger scale and then narrow down (karyotype, FISH etc.)
