Hi all,

I am writing a review on NGS sequencing.

I found data about the cost per sequenced megabase, made publicly available by NHGRI. enter image description here

I was wondering if similar reliable and updated data exists for sequencing speed, either in term of megabase per hour or total time for genome sequencing.

If you know, could you point me to the source?

I think that's going to be a tricky graph to produce reliably, if you are to go back as far as 2001, since the old methods of sequencing where not robust or done by machines. Some months you could sequence a Mb very quickly, other months your experiments would consistently fail and you'd have to do it over and over again. In short, if you go back this far, you start comparing apples to oranges in a sense. The idea of taking the entire human genome and dividing it by the years to produce is also not fair, since some parts of HGP took much longer than others, due to repeats/etc. So i'd confine your analysis to machines with a very consistent throughput rate, and i'd forget the time axis, since a machine is a machine, whenever you use it. If you must have time, use the release date of the machines.

It is probably not very meaningful to think about sequencing in terms of "speed" since it would depend on type of libraries, how well they were constructed, type of sequencing technology, phase of the moon ... you get the idea.
