Bowtie2-build index files

Hii................ I am running bowtie2-build and was wondering does the total number of files generated (the .bt2) vary as per the genome size or it remains the same. In my case a total of 6 files were generated. If the number of files generated remains the same, then what does each file indicate.

The number of files produced is constant regardless of the genome size. The files include the forward and reverse burrows-wheeler transformed genome, a packed genome index, and so on.
