You can have a fully closed genome sequence, but what do you call a kind of genome that is not closed? Is there a simple term for that?

There is also the idea of a permanent draft assembly. This is an assembly which is never intended to be completed = finished = closed.

Draft can imply that it is just a work in progress.

And technically, even a draft assembly can be closed :)

One could argue that every draft genome is a work in progress. Even if no one is currently actively working on some assembly, every genome will eventually be closed.
