Hi there,

I am getting started with learning genome annotation. After reading a few (somewhat theoretical) review papers, I thought it'd be nice to hear from the community of the current status of genome annotation tools.
Could you please list some tools currently in frequent use? If you know of recent (say, from the last year or two) papers introducing or reviewing such tools, I'd be glad to know. Specifically, I'm interested in tools applying machine learning approaches for genome annotation/gene prediction. I couldn't really find any publications of the type.
I know that my question is a bit broad, but still hope you could help me get started.
Thanks!

Hi Liorglic

There are good number of ML based gene prediction tools, viz. CONTRAST, splicer and mGene which have been in use. There have been benchmarked methods as well that are ab initio based.
