The position:
The role of Research Scientist staff in CSIRO is to conduct innovative research leading to scientific achievements that are aligned with CSIRO's strategies. CSIRO Agriculture and Food currently have an opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Research Scientist in Crop Disease Resistance.
In this role you will undertake research to develop and establish resistance gene enrichment strategies to fast track cloning of seedling and adult plant rust resistance genes in winter cereals. You will also provide leadership in ongoing resistance gene cloning studies in wheat. Active engagement with international institutions to provide a global context relevant to rust research for the Australian grains industry, will be an important focus of this role. Travelling regularly to Cobbitty field sites, you will plan, plant and evaluate rust epidemics in collaboration with the University of Sydney, Plant Breeding Institute – Cobbitty. Central to your research activities will be the use of your project management skills to coordinate laboratory and glasshouse experiments in Canberra, as well as undertaking field rust evaluations at the Plant Breeding Institute.
Foster collaborative relationships and grow your professional networks. Jointly supervise PhD candidates with Australian Universities engaged in winter cereal-pathogen interaction studies. Enquiries from applicants seeking part time work are encouraged and will be considered case-by-case.
