What is the proportion of transcripts that are targeted by NMD on vertebrates genomes?

Hi to all,

I recently gave a lab meeting and I said that approximately one third of the transcriptome is targeted by non-sense mediated decay (NMD). I used to read a lot about NMD, but I don't really remember where I took that number from, or even if it's true hahaha

However in plant at least 17.4% of the transcripts are targeted my NMD (Wachter et. al). By predicting premature stop codons (PTCs) this should be a kind of straight forward estimation to make. However I'm struggling to find a reliable updated version of this number on vertebrates.

Any help on this would be really appreciated, Thanks!
