why and how to transform gene expression data ?

I have gene expression data, do I have to do some transformations before using it ? what transformations should I use?

Based on the tag here I'll assume you have RNA-seq data, but you should add much more information to your question to get a precise answer. @ WouterDeCoster Ok sorry about that, yes it is a RNA seq data , I'm trying to find the relation between the Snps and the gene expression (cis-eQTL) using R package (MatrixEQTL)

so my question do I need to do any transformation on the gene expression before using it
