How to uninstall bcftools 0.1.19 from ubuntu 14.04

Hi, I try to uninstall the old version bcftools 0.1.19 from ubuntu 14.04 and install the newer version.

Try"sudo apt-get remove bcftools", but the result is "E: Unable to locate package bcftools".

I know the bcftools 0.1.19 is in /usr/bin/bcftools by run "whcih bcftools".

So how to uninstall the old bcftools?

"sudo apt-get remove bcftools"

This is a way to uninstall Linux packages and bcftools is not a Linux package

You can just rename the old bcftools to something like "bcftools_0.1.19" rather than removing it. This way, you can use it in future if needed.

Indeed, there is no bcftools package for Ubuntu versions lower than 16.04. If a bcftools command is available, then it probably comes from a patch such as /usr/local/bin/ or ~/bin/ , unless a third-party binary package was installed. Joe, the command which bcftools will indicate the program's location, and then you can take action as suggested by Santosh and genomax2.

That a very good suggestion, so how to rename to bcftools_0.1.19?

Something like. sudo mv bcftool_0.1.19/bcftools bcftool_0.1.19/bcftools_OLD
