Description: A postdoctoral scientist position (2+ years) is available in Prof. Benjamin Callahan's group at North Carolina State University. The successful applicant will lead the development of new methods for the analysis of high-throughput microbiome data, and help implement those tools as software packages accessible to the wider research community.
The Callahan lab studies the ecology and evolution of microbial communities, with particular interest in the development of novel methods for the characterization and analysis of natural communities, and in the role of adaptation in shaping patterns of biodiversity and ecological characteristics such as resilience to invasion. NC State University is one of the three-points of the Research Triangle (along with Duke and UNC), and the RT is also home to a vibrant engineering and biotech industry, including in the microbiome field.
Requirements: Applicants are expected to have obtained a PhD in a field related to either half of "quantitative biology" (eg. computer science, statistics, physics, ...; ecology, genetics, evolutionary biology, ...), to have strong computational and communication skills, and to be interested in collaborative research on complex microbial communities. Previous experience with R, Python, C or C++, and software development are all pluses.
Start Date: Position to start on or after July 1, 2017, preferably before the end of the year. https://jobs.ncsu.edu/postings/86228
Position Details: This position includes a $50k starting salary, benefits, and a travel budget.
How to Apply: Please email Benjamin Callahan (bcallah@ncsu.edu) with a curriculum vitae (CV) and a description of your research interests. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and applications will be considered until the position is filled.
