I would like to know about the specifications for computer for VCF file analysis (variant annotation and interpretation only) using ANNOVAR and VarAFT software. In addition, I would like to know about the server that I could use for safe data storage.
Use your university cluster / super-computer for the analyses. For storage, if is just you (as you did not mention anyone else), a couple of external hard-drives with redundant copies of your data and kept on different locations should suffice for safe storage.
Now, if my answer is completely off the mark, provide more details about your usage: volume of data, how many samples, how many users, is it a small one-person or lab project or a large collaborative effort, and so on.
Given the frequency at which I see consumer-grade disks fail, I wouldn't recommend external hard-drive as a safe storage solution. Plus it can take ages to transfer any serious amount of data to the cluster.

True, that is the reason I suggested "a couple", I (hopefully) made my point clearer now.
