Hi Friends,

Is there any repeats (short nucleotides like AT or GC or GATA repeats) which can be one of the factor for causing breast cancer? and is there any article regarding it?

Could you please add some more information: Why do you think this might be the case? What part of the literature have you surveyed so far?

I have changed the title, check it out. The way you put it in the first place gave me the impression that you were asking whether repeats are the only responsible for cancer.

I don't think this is necessarily bioinformatics related.

actually it has been studied that Trinucleotide repeats affect DNA replication in vivo.

So please can you expand on the bioinformatics part of this question? Otherwise it will get closed as off topic. I still don't see how this can't be answered with a PubMed search.

as it has been studied that few repeats like CAG polymorphism causes breast cancer. So, if we find the repeats in a particular gene more in number, it means that the gene is highly prone to the disease.

The following paper seems to be asking your question, and provides a review of known associations between short tandem repeat polymorphisms and breast cancer:

EDIT: since you don't have access to that paper, here is a simplification of its Table 1, which summarises the genes with STR polymorphisms associated with breast cancer. Use with caution - I may have introduced errors or posted incorrect URLs. Also, remember to cite the authors if you use this information.

  • STR: (CAG)n
  • Position: Exon 1
  • References: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

  • STR: (GT)n
  • Position: Promoter
  • References: 10, 11, 12
