I recently got involved in an EU Erasmus Mundus MSc program in <A HREF="&lt;a href=" http:="" biohealth-computing.org="" "="" rel="nofollow">http://biohealth-computing.org/">BioHealth Computing</A>. I wondered where students interested in such masters or graduate programs in bioinformatics can go to find information about available programs in the field.

I edited the title since I realized there is no "best" site. An overview of sites is more useful.

Hi Chris,

I recently came across this listing from www.bioinformatics.org. It's not restricted to post-graduate education and isn't comprehensive, but there are quite a few programs listed there.

Oops, I meant to also link to http://www.bioinformatics.org/wiki/Education_in_Europe, where they list degree programs at Universities throughout Europe. I can vouch for the bioinformatics PhD program at UCD in Ireland since I just finished it, and from my very biased point of view it was great!

Thanks! They offer interesting course topics, that appear to be mainly for self-learning. The courses are not free and an unlimited access to all the existing self-paced courses would be $2000,-. As described [?]here[?]. They do give out certificates for completed courses, but as far as I could find they do not have full masters or graduate programs.

Take the list with a grain of salt, it seems outdated in large parts. But it should be fine to use it as a starting point.

It's an extremely good website, I have been using it quite a lot in my career to look for job offers, degrees and conferences.

Some that didn't appear in the other answers:

  • Gradschools.com, they have a lot of programs, mostly in the US.
  • FindAPhD.com is useful sister site to FindAMasters.com, which was mentioned by Lars, (yes they also have FindAPostdoc.com; they are UK based and focused).
  • Academic transfer is the Dutch site for academic positions (any, not just bioinformatics)

And then I did find this twitter account. Not so much about programs but about grants to go there, which might be useful in this context as well.

There are several "portals" for finding master's programs. I am involved in a program in Computational Biology (http://www.csc.kth.se/utbildning/program/compsysbio/) in Stockholm and we can be found from

and I am sure there are more sites like this.

A nice feature with both these sites is that you can restrict your searches to different geographical regions.

Undergrad / Masters' visiting students mentioned that they usually visit these sites for Master's or PhD positions in EU Biojobs / naturejobs / science careers. I would also suggest mailing lists of BioC, BioPerl, BioJava or BioPython. GSoC applicants are usually informed via Bio-* mailing list, so that one will be a potential resource.
