Research Associate in Bioinformatics of the Oral Microbiome, Ohio State University

The laboratory of Drs. Eugene Leys and Ann Griffen in the Division of Biosciences, College of Dentistry at the Ohio State University has an opening for a research associate to study the oral microbiome. We have several ongoing projects including studies of the acquisition of the oral microbiome and changes during childhood, the interactions between oral microbes in a high throughput infection model, a collaborative study on cultivating previously uncultivated oral bacteria, and a collaborative study of the interactions of the microbiome in HIV infected patients with oral Candidiasis and HPV.

We are seeking candidates with as many as possible of the following abilities:

  • Masters degree or equivalent exp
  • Good communication skills
  • Problem solving ability
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as needed
  • Experience in next generation sequence analysis, including whole genome, whole metagenome, 16S amplicon, and RNAseq.
  • Experience in at least some of Unix/Linux command-line, R, Python, JavaScript and SQL
  • Knowledge of biology including molecular biology and microbiology

The OSU College of Dentistry is located on the main campus of the University in Columbus. As well as being an active research institution in its own right, it has access to resources of multiple other colleges on campus. Columbus is the 15th largest city in the country, but is very livable without extreme traffic or high real estate prices.
