DuPont Industrial Biosciences is seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to work on biotechnology projects using fungal hosts. Industrial Biosciences is an industry leader in providing biobased solutions to meet the needs of a growing population while protecting our environment. We create enzymes and other biobased inventions used by manufacturers to increase the productivity and environmental benefits of nearly 400 consumer and commercial products, such as foods, beverages, animal nutrition, textiles, household cleaning and fuel for vehicles. We have major US research locations in Wilmington, Delaware and Palo Alto, California, and the location of this position is flexible with respect to existing research sites.

The successful candidate will be part of multidisciplinary teams within a larger community of computational biologists, molecular biologists, microbiologists, biochemists and biochemical engineers. The successful applicant will be part of project teams working on fungal expression hosts, gene discovery, protein engineering and protein expression. These projects will likely include genome assembly and analysis, transcriptomics, metabolomics, metabolic modeling and data mining of existing large datasets. Candidates should be self-motivated, thrive in a research team environment, and be eager to take on new challenges presented by diverse projects.

This position is open to candidates with a Ph.D. and a minimum of two years of postdoctoral training in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related field. Preference will be given to candidates with a broad knowledge base who have demonstrated experience with fungal or yeast biology, experience with NGS data and familiarity with machine learning approaches.

Job Qualifications

  • Ph.D. and a minimum of two years of postdoctoral training in Bioinformatics or related fields or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with NGS data for genomic and transcriptomic analyses.
  • Strong linux skills and programming ability in at least one of the following: Python, C/C , Java, R or Perl.
  • Productivity demonstrated through a track record of publications and /or patents.
  • Effective written and oral communication of scientific results.

Can a non-PhD person with solid experience in NGS of 5-6 years and a close overlap with the required skills as mentioned above, apply for this position OR PhD is mandatory ?
