IBAB seeks to appoint a faculty in the area of bioinformatics with a focus on genome informatics and quantitative genomics at its Bio-IT centre. Ideally the candidate should have strong research programs in quantitative genetics/genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, genome informatics. Selected candidate will work with diverse genomic data sets including but not limited to human diseases such as cancer, obesity, diabetes, metabolic and immune disorders and play a critical role in the development of personalized and predictive medicine in these disease areas. The selected candidate will also take part in providing training and service in genomic data analysis to the user community. The position is funded by a core grant from the Government of Karnataka for a period of 5 years.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities (i) Develop strong, extramurally funded and collaborative research programs in genomics/genome informatics (ii) Conduct/support training programs and workshops for students, researchers in genomic data analysis (iii) Provide service in data analysis (iv) Teach relevant subjects in educational programs of IBAB (v) Share other responsibilities of institutional activities.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in a scientific area relevant to Bioinformatics
  • Minimum 5 years of appropriate post-doctoral/industrial experience
  • Strong publication record in disciplines related to the position
  • Experience in scripting and implementation of algorithms in programming languages including C/C++, Python, Java, R etc.
  • Good experience in the use of NGS analysis tools
  • Good grasp of algorithms in bioinformatics
  • Experience in UNIX/LINUX computing systems and relational databases
  • Potential to initiate and sustain a strong externally funded research program
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple audiences
  • Evidence of commitment to teaching and training

Remuneration:

Remuneration will be commensurate with expertise and experience

Last date for submission of application is September 30, 2017. Shortlisted candidates would be called for a presentation of their research program, followed by a personal interview. Applicants should share their proposed research programs and also proposed date of joining and start of the activities.

About Bio-IT Centre:

The Bio-IT research and training centre (Bio-IT Centre) has been established at IBAB in 2010 under a public-private partnership with grant-in-aid from the DeitY, Government of India and the Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka. Bio-IT Centre has state-of-art facility for NGS with the high throughput sequencer Hi Seq 2500, Hi-Scan (Illumina bead-array) for genotyping and Ion-torrent and other accessories such as Qubit, C-bot, Covaris, Tape-station etc for processing DNA and RNA samples. IBAB has recently taken full charge of the Centre and its operations.
