Job Description
The candidate will take part in developing lab methodologies and data systems for the characterization, typing and analysis of bacteria from the food production chain, using Next Generation Sequencing. Data will be evaluated using the most up-to-date sequencing (open source) software within a risk assessment and epidemiology framework built for the evaluation of food production systems. The candidate will participate in the development of decision support for microbiological identification and characterization pertaining to food-related microorganisms nationally as well as internationally. The candidate will work with PhD students as well as research staff, and will be involved in the joint development of the research area. The candidate will also be involved in NGS bioinformatics training of other professionals from Singapore and the Region.
Job Requirements
PhD Degree in microbiology, molecular biology, related biotechnology or engineering subjects, with a specific focus on bioinformatics. A strong track record of publication in the area, as well as documented experience in bioinformatics modelling as well as experience in data management and analysis is expected. Documented experience in national or international training efforts in the area will be beneficial. The candidate should have an interest in infectious disease, health surveillance, metagenomics, and combining microbiology and genomics with epidemiology and bioinformatics. The candidate should have the following programming skills - python, HTML5, JavaScript, Perl, or R.
Min. Years of Experience:
at least 2 years post-PhD experience in - bioinformatics research as applied to Whole Genome Sequencing of microorganisms
