kmer Counter using hadoop and gpu

I am interested in developing a kmer counter which uses hadoop and also the paralllel programming model of the GPU. I have done some research but haven't found any of this sort. Does this approach give better results? Is it an efficient way for developing an analytic tool for large scale sequence data?

GPU will definitely help, you can try CUDA from NVIDIA for GPU programming.
