I'm attempting to make a gene schematic in gviz using a txDb object. When I plot my gene region track, I get bombarded with all of the transcript variants. Is there a way to get down to one representative transcript where all exons are represented on one line? I tried collapseTranscripts=TRUE and that produces a box that just covers from the start of the gene to the end of the gene (which is definitely not what I want). Any assistance is appreciated

Have you tried collapseTranscripts = "meta"? From the Feb 15, 2018 version of the documentation, p.43 & p.46, it seems to be what you're looking for.
