Hi, I was wondering how is it possible to cross out line in Biostars (to not remove my comment, just cross over a line if I did a mistake or wrote something not accurate). Is there a special button or command to do that ? Thanks

What are the odds, I looked this up myself today for StackOverflow after wondering how to do it for ages haha

Incidentally,

<s>text</s>

is short for (strikethrough):

<strike>text</strike>

I had this question in mind for several months from now, but never asked it. Then, @finswimmer ask how to include github code in posts. I instantly think : "Forum time" !

Most standard HTML code should work in Biostars posts.

Asking for how to cross out a line was also on my "To-Ask-List". :)

It would be extremely helpful if someone could wright a "How to format your post", like Ram did some time ago for adding pictures to a post. And this article(s) should be linked in the FAQ, so everyone can find them quickly.

Thanks for the links but they are "standard" of How to post on Biostars (accept answer, bookmark, create a new post...). No mention of how to insert githut code or cross out a comment. Should we add an answer to these threads to ask something new, or, like we did, create a new one ? Maybe a part III of How to use Biostars ? :)

Sure. Since @Ram did the first two we will discuss with him to create a third version to keep the info consistent.

Things you are referring to are advanced features that are generally used by people who have been on Biostars for a while and continue to contribute. At this point we have more people who use Biostars as a solution resource to get stuff done to continue on with whatever their main interest is.

I think an "Advanced Part III" would be worthwhile :)

I let this here, for the Advanced Part III of "How to use Biostars"

Some teams use Twitter social media to spread their new tool.

How to add Twitter Bioinformatic post in Tools thread ?

Ideally that should be done by the authors not by us.

You can add a link to tweet to a biostars post and it will be parsed properly. Like below.

You could tweet at the author of tool and ask them to create/update a tools post here.

I've been thinking about this for a while but considering the time and effort critically, I'd just be re-creating a markdown guide. What might be better than "how-to" format is a "why" should you use various formatting options - especially the code and quote options.

Update to reflect that we've been supporting markdown for a while:

~~text~~ becomes text, same as <s>text</s> or </strike>text</strike>.
