Hello,

I wanna know how to link/tag someone to a Biostars post.

This will help if we know someone that could answer the question or to ask a question on a specific tool someone developped.

You can copy and paste their biostars profile URL. Like this one for you: Bastien Hervé (https://www.biostars.org/u/ 36456/) You can look them up in community. Be careful though. Many people use an alias so you may end up tagging the wrong person.

Thanks for this one, I was more looking for a way to trigger/notify the person, so the person can see the post. Like @user_name something like that

I think that should work too to notify them.

If the user is active on slack you can also notify them there...

No notification from his side, sadly...

It will only work if the user has set their biostars profile to follow messages from biostars by email. Otherwise you need to contact them outside biostars. There is no way to private message people on biostars.

If you add a comment with the user profile link on any post it should let them know.

It works because i'm already in the discussion... If I tag someone else in a comment he/she will never know

Example :

I want to link Emily_Ensembl to this post Fasta file and GTF file for STAR alignment to notify Emily to take a look (if possible of course) at this post.

Follow my advice above. In that question that you want to tag Emily in post her biostars profile URL as a comment. You should generally tag as comment on the main post separately.
