Hello, I am a bioinformatics student, my BSc is medical science. Currently, I am studying MSc degree in bioinformatics. I finished my first year in the master degree we worked on python programming language and R.

I have an inquiry about the following points:

  1. Are there any online courses or websites to be strong in Python programming language?
  2. Do you have any advice to improve my experience in bioinformatics field because my background is different?

Thanks in advance

I'm a big fan of Rosalind, which is specifically designed for learning bioinformatics programming. I've done problems on there to practice both Python and R: http://rosalind.info/problems/locations/

You don't have a formal course in python programming that is being taught as part of your M.Sc. program? Here is a comprehensive list of Python learning resources that @dago had put together: Learning Python: list of resources

Bioinformatics is a very wide field, so you should try to pick a topic that you like. At some point of your master degree in bioinformatics, you will (probably) have to work in a scientific group for your master thesis, which might be your first big experience working on real world problems. Try to pick a group that focus on the same topic than to one you are interested in. This sounds trivial, but it is very important ; if things go well, you might end up working there for longer than just the duration of your master thesis.

If you want to get better at Python, then do more Python based projects. Start with basics if you need them on Coursera, edX, etc., then jump into programming projects and Google anything you cant figure out how to do.

Hi Lucas, if you are proficient in python, I am working on the project with a rather simple python in the field of deep learning for image recognition. If you are interested to gather experience and looking for scientific publications also, I would be happy to discuss this in more details with you.
