We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatics software engineer and data manager to join the research group of Peer Bork within the Structural and Computational Biology Unit. This bioinformatics group works on a wide range of topics with a current focus on microbial analysis in ecosystems like the human gut or the ocean.
Your role would be to develop infrastructure and resources to be used within the group and externally. It includes the development and maintenance of bioinformatics software and databases as well as web frontends. For example, it entails maintaining and expanding a database containing data and metadata from metagenomic sequencing projects hosting the projects of other group members. The position also involves large-scale data handling (e.g. of NGS data), for example, executing and monitoring data analysis pipelines. The duties range from generic bioinformatics and IT support to specific projects in application areas such as microbiomics or molecular interaction networks.
