I want to search "toxin" proteins which are classified as "ion channel inhibitors". These proteins can be classified into four(04) groups
- chloride channel inhibitors
- calcium channel inhibitors
- potassium channel inhibitors
- sodium channel inhibitors
Please suggest me how can I find these proteins.
My Effort
I used the famous UNITPROT tool and searched using following keywords but both of them gave different results
toxins "ion channel inhibitor" 1010 results
toxin "ion channel inhibitor" 4169 results
Please suggest me what is the correct and efficient way to get the specific and accurate results?
There isn't one magical search that is going to give you perfect results. Your search is fairly poorly defined at the moment.
I would suggest you find out what biologically or chemically makes these 4 protein groups good inhibitors, and start looking by homology for as many examples as you can find which fit those parameters.
This smells a little like an XY Question though, so why don't you tell us what the final aim is?
Please read my post I have written what I want to do. I told you I want to search toxin protein which are .................. Then I would list them in an excel sheet . Just an exercise to how to use this uniprot resource and make use of effective query because this search will be done using advanced query and I have used this advanced search and showed my results and this is a final goal indeed.
Those are probably as specific and accurate as you can get without going through and manually checking a percent or two and defining some filtering criterion. Note that no all channel inhibitors will be in uniprot, only those with known sequence.
Thank you very much indeed!
