Will there ever be any chat rooms for biostar in the same fashion that stack overflow has?

IMHO chat rooms requires some critical mass user wise to work (old experience from IRC). I am afraid that you will be mostly alone, response time will be long, and you might end up hanging out with people uninterested in your particular subject.

• biology

you might want to check those out.

Sounds good. How about starting a monthly chat on twitter or a huddle on G+ for interested BioStar members. Several communities use twitter effectively for weekly chats (#phdchat #mdchat), we could try theme based chats (Database, NGS, etc.)
