Hi Saran, I know of two companies that are or were (not sure which) working on this type of problem. One was Coda Genomics (now defunct) but you can look up Rick Lathrop. And the second is Perkin Elmer. I believe they both have patents as well. I believe that RL's patent uses thermodynamic calculations to determine the 'best' codon sequence while PE's uses melting point. Very interesting ideas.

Q. May I ask what you have found out, if anything? M

do you mean you suggest buying a commercial product only for translating a DNA to protein ?

@Pierre: I am not suggesting you (or anyone) should buy anything. I am saying that there is enough interest in finding alternative codon sequences that would produce 'your protein of interest' such that two companies have filed (both I believe have been awarded) patents. This technology could be very useful in producing very large dna segments which might self-assemble via melting pt or thermodynamic properties. As you may know, there are practical limits to length of man made dna. Wouldn't it be useful to increase that by a factor of 10, 100, 1000, etc.
