Help on How to run miRanda (miRNA targeting sites prediction software)

Dear all:

I successfully unzipped and installed the software: miRanda-aug2010.tar.gz, on the xubuntu in Oracle VM VirtualBox under my Window 7, following the instruction: http://www.microrna.org/microrna/faq.do#question8anchor

But I can't run the installed program. Whenever I typed: miranda, it gave me this message: miranda: command not found

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

With your information, in addition, I changed my command from: miranda to ./miranda

it worked!

That's fantastic! A side note: If you were able to add PATH, you may also add "." (the current directory) in the PATH. That will allow you to run it simply as miranda (ie no need to prefix with ./ )

Go into the directory where you have installed miRanda and do run ls command. If you find miRanda there, then you can run it usually like

$ miranda

If not, then check where the program is installed (assuming that you installed it correctly). Some programs are installed in a folder named bin inside the installation folder

If the program installed correctly and runs by above method, you may need to set the PATH of the directory so that you can run from anywhere. See here
