Job Description
Goldfinch Bio in Cambridge, MA seeks a talented bioinformatics Senior/Principal scientist to aid in development of its Kidney Genome Atlas (KGA). The KGA is one of the core components in the company’s product engine and a critical resource within the company. This instrumental position will play a pivotal role in the definition of data processing algorithms, analysis of variants and understanding the role of these variants in the underlying biology of kidney disease. Well suited individuals will not only have significant experience with next-generation sequence analysis, but also multi-omics data analysis, algorithm development and clinical data analysis.
Job Responsibilities Include:
- Implementing and updating pipeline informatics to drive processing of tens of thousands of patient Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) data sets with QC metrics
- Evaluation of open-source algorithms for standard next generation sequence data processing, including variant calling, joint genotyping and variant annotation
- Defining and assisting with the implementation of variant annotation and filtering
- Development of custom algorithms to supplement existing open-source methods for large-scale data mining
- Contributing to identification and elucidation of novel pathways relevant to kidney disease
- Providing bioinformatics, clinical informatics and statistical support to biology and translational medicine teams
Required Skills
Qualifications/Experience:
- MS or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology or similar discipline is required
- Strong computer programming skills with proven experience developing professional applications in Python and R
- Strong proficiency in managing workflows, priorities, and deadlines and managing multiple projects as part of a small team
- Proven experience analyzing next generation sequencing data, with a particular focus on whole genome sequencing data
Preferred Experience in addition to the above:
- 5-10 years post-doctoral experience or 7+ years industry experience following MS degree
- Experience with Hail (Broad Institute)
- In-depth knowledge of the Genome Analysis Toolkit (GATK)
- Experience operating in a cloud platform (AWS or other)
- Experience with version control, electronic notebooks (Jupyter or other) and the ability to clearly report scientific results
