Removing last characters of sequence names in a FASTA

Hello everyone. I have a FASTA file with the CDS of an organism such as:

>FvH4_1g00330.1
ATTTGGA...
>FvH4_1g00340.1
...

How could I remove that ".1" at the end of every name? Thanks in advance.

Try this:

cut -d "." -f1 your_file > new_file
