Hello!

I would like to know how a read generated through NGS is termed a 'chimera'. I tried looking at some papers but none of them seems to explain how one is formed in the first place.

Is a chimera a read that is composed of fragments from different chromosomes or simply of non-contiguous parts of the same chromosome?

Thank you.
